The battle in Austin over tollroads is even more vitriolic. Here's the most current volley:


Although I suspect that shouting 'fascist' at the drop of a hat is peculiar to Austin's strident desire to keep it 'weird.'

I'm against tollroads since they don't accomplish much other than hold people living in those areas hostage. That's esp. true in Austin where people moved outside the major routes in order to save a few bucks on cost of living (something that I, personally, would never do). But now any savings they gained by living in a commuter community is going to get eaten up a quarter a pop. And the logic that the frontage roads are still free is small comfort; everyone who's driven on them knows that a frontage road during rush hour is one of Dante's levels of hell.
