Back in December I commented on Bexar County giving an $85,000 no-bid contract to the husband of Sheryl Sculley, SA's city manager. The purpose of this contract was to explore other uses for the tax revenue from the tax that was used to build the AT&T Center. The focus, of course, was on another sports team.
Well here we are barely three months later and the County has abandoned it's efforts to try to land another team. The E-N article quotes Sculley as saying "I think we need
to be proactive and tell (the NFL and baseball), 'You've turned your
back on us long enough. It's time we take care of our own.'"
I think this is the right response. But anyone with half a brain could have come up with that. Especially since in the last year we've been rejected by both Major League Baseball and the NFL. How do I get an $85,000 contract for THREE MONTHS OF WORK? The median income for a family in this city is about $41,000.
I know I said in my original post that it didn't bother me who got the contract. But, in three months he made over double what the median family makes in a year. And all he did was tell Judge Wolff that we ought to give up our efforts to land a sports team. Money well spent. If we're gonna piss away $85,000 we might as well give it to the City Manager's husband.
